Our presenter, lawyer Len Fishman of Fishman Beley Family Law Associates, will be discussing the family law process in Manitoba and important recent changes.
Called to the Bar in 1975, after graduating from the University of Manitoba, Len Fishman has focussed his practice on family law. He and Terry Beley have been practising together since 1992 under the name Fishman Beley Family Law Associates. Len’s son, Noah Fishman, joined the firm in 2012. Len has argued cases in all the courts of Manitoba and has taken two important cases to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Len lectured and mentored law students in the Faculty of Law’s Clinical Family Law course for over 10 years, was co-course head of the Family Law section of the Law Society’s Bar Admissions Program for over 10 years and Chair of the Family Law Section for 2 years. He has contributed to numerous Law Society Continuing Education Programs and lectures in the Intermediary Family Law course for Community Legal Education Association (CLEA).
He is frequently appointed as an arbitrator by lawyers or clients or is the Law Society’s appointed Chair on Fee Arbitrations in Family Law (a free program of binding arbitration in family law fee disputes sponsored by the Law Society of Manitoba).
Over the years, Len has been on various Manitoba Bar Association and court committees, currently as an originating member of the Standard Clauses for Orders in Family Proceedings committee, which has just released Version 6.
